The grand-niece of Thomas Jefferson. She was the daughter of John Edward Philemon Ambler and his wife Catherine Nevison Tazewell. Mary married William Henderson Caskie. He was an actor and painter, and later cartoonist for the Austin Texas Siftings magazine after 1881. She and William had two surviving children. In 1860 they lived in Richmond where William was a Tobacconist. They moved to Galveston, Texas and lived there for many years. William died there.
