Adeline (Ann) Bacon Calhoun passed away at the age of 96, February 2,
2022. Ann was born June 3, 1925 to Silas and Ester Bacon in Boswell,
Oklahoma, and was the eldest of 10 children.
She attended Chilocco Indian School before moving to Oklahoma City to
help in the war effort as a riveter for Douglass Airplane Factory. While in
Oklahoma City she met Cruce C. Calhoun, within a very short time they
were married, July 6, 1945. Ann would remark that it was the only way to
get him off her front porch.
After they married they spent the next 7 years traveling all over Oklahoma
and West Texas. C.C. was following the oil boom as a tool pusher. He
always boasted that she could have the trailer packed and ready to go in
30 minutes.
Five years after they married they had their first child, Mary Ann. Three
years later, they bought their first home in Aspermont, Texas and daughter,
Peggy Sue, was born. Their son, Walter Riley, was born in 1961.
Ann enjoyed golfing with her friends, dancing, attending all of the activities
C.C. was involved in; trap shooting and many of his Masonic Lodge
duties, but most of all she enjoyed being with her family. She made many
trips to Oklahoma to visit and keep those close bonds.
After C.C. passed away she moved to Abilene and eventually San Antonio
to be closer to her children. She enjoyed her many trips with her sisters,
and trips to the casino.
She was preceded in death by her husband, C.C. Calhoun, daughter,
Ingrid (Peggy Sue), son, Walter, as well as all of her sisters and brothers,
Mary, David, Tommy, James, Harvel, Frances, Sally, Esther, and Joe. She
will be greatly missed by her daughter, Mary Ann Light, granddaughters,
Jennifer Light, and husband, Hunter Thomas, Stacey Light Boebel and
husband, Scott Boebel, grandson, John Allan Light, and great
grandchildren, Emmett Allan Boebel, Adeline Lee Boebel, and many nieces
and nephews. Everyone remarked how she brought joy and love to
everyone she met.
