Eugenia B. Kappas, 80, of Salt Lake City, passed away on March 9, 2011. Eugenia was born on April 16, 1930 in Ogden, Utah, to Peter D. and Helen K. Batestas. She married Nicholas G. Kappas of SLC.

She is survived by her daughters: Elenie (Brian K.) Ashlock, of Williamsburg, VA, and Georgene Kappas, of SLC; grandson, David Kappas-Mcfalls, of SLC; brother, James P. (Georgina K.) Batestas; nephew, James P. Batestas, Jr.; nieces: Michelle Stevens and Christine Adams, all of SLC.

She was very proud of her Greek heritage and was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, where she played in the basketball league at a young age, then later participated in helping the Greek dance groups with costume design. She was an incredible artist and had a passion for Greek cooking and history.

A private graveside service for immediate family will be held on March 12, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn. Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life in honor of Eugenia on March 12, 2011 between the hours of 2:30 and 4:00 p.m. at the Little America Hotel, Sun Valley Room.

Our family wishes to extend our deep appreciation and thanks to all of her wonderful caregivers.
