Ebenezer Brown was the founder of Brownsville, BC (now part of the city of Surrey). He was a stonemason and liquor merchant; he made the border monument at Point Roberts.

He served on New Westminster's city council and later was elected as MLA from 1875-1878 and from 1878-1881.

He was educated in England and came to British Columbia in 1858. He built the Brownsville Hotel circa 1864. Around 1875 the confluence of Semiahmoo Road, Yale Road, Telegraph Trail, and Kennedy Trail linked the Upper Fraser Valley and the Fraser Canyon, making Brownsville an important community.

With no Patullo Bridge until 1936, a K de K ferry was operated between New Westminster and Brownsville by Captain Angus Grant, named after his son-in-law Joseph Sexton Knevett de Knevett.
