Daughter of the late Dayton Bruce and Millie Mae Greene Pierce, she was the widow of James Buell Bentley. Additionally, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph Pierce and Robert Pierce; and two sisters, Christine Cross and Adele Smith. She was survived by a son, John Bentley (Cathie); grandson, Gunnar Bentley; granddaughters, Candice Bentley-Hillman, Iris Bentley, Gray and Hayley Bowers; four great-grandsons, Gage Hillman, Dylan Hillman, Benjamin Hillman and Noah Freeman; and an extended family of relatives. She retired as a telephone operator. She was a member of Sinking Creek Baptist Church. Her funeral was held on March 12, 2011, with The Rev. Reece Harris officiating and with the eulogy given by Gunnar Bentley.
