Per "Hoye's Pioneer Families of Garrett County" Complied by Garrett County Historical Society - McClain Printing Parsons, WV (1988) - Charles Barnard listed here, was the son of Edward Barnard II. Edward married Lila (?) and had sons, Norman (who married the widow Smouse) and CHARLES, who 1st married Martha (Tasker) and then married 2nd, "the widow of Joseph Wilson". The "widow of Joseph Wilson" is Elmira/Almira (Barnard) Wilson-Barnard. Joseph D. Wilson is also buried in the Barnard Cemetery and served in the 2nd Maryland P.H.B. with Charles and other Barnard's. Joseph died and Almira remarried her 3rd cousin CHARLES (this Charles). The marriage record is in Oakland, Maryland, and states they were 3rd cousins. Elmira/Almira (born circa 1838-42) is the daughter of George Bernard (whose grave is also listed in here as a veteran of the 2nd Maryland PHB (but mistakenly lists his year of birth as 1869 - after the Civil War in which his headstone states he served). Civil War Widow's Pension application obtained from National Archives verifies these marriages of Elmira/Almira to both Jospeh D. Wilson and Charles Barnard. Elmira/Almira's date of death is July 15, 1916 (as listed in the Fredlock Funeral Home book, Piedmont, WV. Though her location of burial is yet unknown, it is extremely likely to be here in this cemetery. The "A Barnard" headstone in this cemetery is not her.

Almira'Elmira swore in her affidavit for Widow's Pension that she and Joseph Wilson wed 01 October 1869 in Bloomington, Garrett County, MD. Joseph died of a "disease of the lungs", a condition which his Civil War records refer to him being afflicted during the war.
CHARLES Barnard is listed in the 1970 US Census married to "Martha A" with children Mary L (3 y/o), Archibald (1 y/o) and Cora (1 y/o). He listed his age as 34 in 1870. He is also listed on the 1880 US Census, still married to "Martha", but the 1900 US Census has him living with wife "Elmira". The 1910 US Census has CHARLES, age 77, living with his son Archibold.
