John Watson Patman was the son of William Watson and Susannah (Biggers) Patman. He was married to Mary Polly Weaver on May 14, 1809 in Oglethorpe, Georgia. Together they had 6 children; David Weaver, Nancy, William B., John Jackson, Isham B and Elas Bell. After Mary Polly's death in 1822, John Watson married Sarah Ellen Weaver Wright on May 2, 1822 in Oglethorpe, Georgia. They became the parents of Martha Jane - 1823, James Perry - 1825, Sarah Ellen - 1828, Catherine Elizabeth - 1831, Elijah W., Joseph L - 1837, Richard Franklin - 1839 and Cynthia Ann - 1842.

The following was added to John Patman's memorial by the suggestion of FAG contributor TAYLOR: In 1848 the Patman family started their move west and left Lexington, Georgia. They first settled in Rome, Floyd County, Georgia. John W. was injured in a high river crossing during their move that cost him many of their personal belongings and his life. He died on January 21, 1849.
