It is uncertain why there are war markers by this gravesite as Joseph Alden died in 1769 and could not, therefore, have been in any American Wars other than the French and Indian war (1754 – 1763), but to date no documentation has been found. More research is being done; perhaps the townspeople or historical society in Stafford know more. Have requested a close-up view of the epitaph (Aug. 2019) and should that photo be added here will do what we can to research.
