WALTER E. DOERNBACH SR., 76, of South Egg Harbor, died Wednesday at Fox Chase Cancer Center, Philadelphia.

Mr. Doernbach was self-employed at Doernbach Homes, custom home builder.

He was a past president and member of the Galloway Township Board of Education; a member and past president of the Fighting 69th Infantry Division, First Army, a WWII War Veteran; and a charter member and past president of the South Egg Harbor Fire Company, since 1948.

Mr. Doernbach also was a member of Kiwanis, the American Legion Egg Harbor City post, and the Zion Lutheran Church of Egg Harbor City. He was a veteran of World War II. And he was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed square dancing with the Haylofters and the Country Squire.

Surviving are his wife, Ann (D'Agostino); three daughters, Ann Schmid of Marmora in Upper Township, Priscilla Spickler of Corbin City, and Darlene Hagel of Mullica Township; a son, Walter Jr. of South Egg Harbor; two sisters, Dorothy Kitz and Sue Corbett, both of Cherry Hill; a brother, Frederick Jr. of Absecon; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Atwood-Peterson-Guthlein Funeral Home, Egg Harbor City. Burial will be in Egg Harbor City Cemetery, Egg Harbor City.
