Helen Rose Johnson

Helen Rose Johnson, 87, of Lansing, died Friday, April 24, 2009, at her home. She was born Oct. 1, 1921, in Basehor, Kan., the daughter of Frank J. and Mary Anna (Antoni) Schmitt.
On June 25, 1940, she married William W. "Bill" Johnson in Basehor. He preceded her in death on Sept. 3, 2007.

Helen is survived by her daughters, Mary Ann (Joseph) Oertel of Gulnare, Colo., Sister Eileen Marie Johnson SCL of Anaconda, Mont., and Linda (Robert) Powers of Lansing; six grandchildren, Charlene White, Darlene Iannone, Kevin Wiehe, Peter Wiehe, Dale Bohannon II, and Dawn Hudson; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and her sisters, Mary E. (Bill) Griffiths of Merritt Island, Fla., Edna Curry of Eagle Rock, Mo., and Eugenia Wadley of Tulsa, Okla.

In addition to her husband Helen was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Schmitt; and a sister, Margaret Cotter.

Helen was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and the church Altar Society. She was the past president of the Marion Mothers, and the Lansing Lioness.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. The rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 29, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Stubbs as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Francis de Sales building fund.
