U.S. Congressman. He attended the Broad Street Academy New York and became a clerk in a law office at the age of twelve years. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1835 and practiced law in Maspeth, New York. He was appointed master in chancery by New York Governor Bouck, in 1843, was a member of the New York State Assembly, in 1850 and a delegate to the Democratic State conventions (1851, 53). In 1853, he was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-third Congress, serving 1853-55. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he again was a member of the New York State Assembly, in 1866 and practice of law until his death.
