The Holton Recorder, Jackson County, Monday May 4, 1942, p6: SIMMONS
Lillie Elizabeth, daughter of Emanuel B. and Julia Ann Ackers, was born November 16, 1879, at Clover Creek, Blair County, Pa. When she was three years of age, the parental family came to Kansas, locating in Nemaha County for a brief period of time, then moving to Jackson County, where she grew to young womanhood.
On April 12, 1905, she was united in marriage to Oliver F. Simmons, with the Rev. C. E. Platz performing the marriage ceremony. This was a happy union for more than 37 years, when she was stricken with fatal illness, which culminated in her death on April 25, 1942, at the age of 62 years, 5 months, and 9 days. She was preceded in death by her father when she was but 4 months old.
In early youth Mrs. Simmons was converted and united with the Evangelical Church at Holton. Although, because of illness, she was deprived of attending the services regularly during recent years, yet she remained a consistent Christian until the time of her death. She possessed a loving, cheerful, and positive personality, which traits of character helped her to make many friends and retain them. Her home was her pride, and her influence in that home, as well as in the community, cannot be fathomed.
She is survived by her husband, Oliver F. Simmons; her aged mother, Mrs. Julia Ann Ackers; one sister, Mrs. John Sommers; two brothers, Harvey M. Ackers of Lancaster, Calif., and Calvin D. Ackers of Reynolds, Ill.; other relatives; and a great host of friends.
Funeral services were held at the Evangelical Church at Holton, on Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, with Rev. C. O. Bickel in charge of the services. Interment was made in the Holton Cemetery.
