OREGON, Mo. — Adeline McGuire was born on August 4, 1920 on the family farm near Mound City, Mo., and passed away at the Oregon Care Center on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at the age of 90.

She was one of four children of James Nelson and Cecil (Henderson) Mendenhall. Adeline graduated from Mound City High School. Following graduation, she worked as a switchboard operator at the Farmers Telephone Office in Mound City.

On May 23, 1945 she married Clyde Wayne McGuire of Mound City. They became parents of two daughters and twin sons. In 1948 they moved to their farm in the New Point community, where she resided until her death.

The McGuires were farmers who operated a small commercial orchard and produced apple cider and honey. Clyde passed away on February 21, 1995, just short of their 50th wedding anniversary.

As a young girl, Adeline was baptized and attended the Mound City Christian Church. Her church home for the past 40 years had been the New Point Christian Church, where she was an active member of the Ladies Circle. She is survived by her daughters: Carolyn Dunham, St. Joseph; Nancy McGuire, Chillicothe, Mo.; sons: William McGuire, Oregon, Mo.; and Robert McGuire and wife, Melissa, Lenexa, Kan.; grandchildren: Cheryl and husband, George Dobson, Wichita, Kan.; Brian and wife, Dr. Jean Dunham, Austin, Texas; and Benjamin McGuire, Springfield, Mo.; two great-grandsons, Timothy and Jacob Dobson; and several nieces and nephews.

Adeline enjoyed spending time with her family. Her hobbies included gardening, raising flowers, sewing, and quilting. Each fall, Adeline looked forward to the Holt County Autumn Festival, where she exhibited many items and volunteered to work in the home economics department.
