Officer Adron "Shorty" Long, DSN 8676, expired on March 25Th, 2011 as a result of cancer at a cancer treatment facility in Chicago. His family was by his side.

Officer Adron Long retired from the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department after 37 years of dedicated service on June the 14Th of 2010.

He joined in 1973, as a civilian Teleprocessing Clerk and became a Police Cadet in 1974, and then after graduating from the Police Academy in 1975.

Officer Long was assigned to Districts 1, 6, 7, and 9, followed by an assignment to the Traffic Safety Division in 1992.

Officer Long later became a member of the elite MCSAP Unit (Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program) in 1998 where he proudly finished his career as a Commercial Vehicle inspector.

Officer Long can be described as a very modest and dedicated Police professional, who for many years has been affectionately known by his colleagues as "Shorty" and is well known for both his tremendous sense of humor.

Officer Long, while serving the St Louis Metropolitan Police Department, received several awards throughout his distinguished career including a Chief's Letter of Commendation in 1979 and 1983.
