MORGAN – Leaving a legacy of love and determination, Lydia Clarinda Brandt Rust, at 81, slipped peacefully away in the early hours on April 25, 2014 at her home in Morgan.

Born December 24, 1932 Myton, Utah to Dorothy Melinda Anderson and James Claren Brandt.

She married the love of her life, Elton Ray Rust on June 14, 1949 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Their union was made eternal on February 10, 1965 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were blessed with "four miracles" Douglas Ray, Beth Ann, Melinda, and Lujean.

Lydia in many ways was a survivor born during the depression, and faced with life challenges and stricken with allergies to animal fur, flowers, and trees and took it all in stride, as she would say "just taking things, one day at a time". One challenge she had to face was when Ray died on August 11, 1985.

Lydia was a stay at home wife and mother for many years, often she would babysit, take in mending, laundry, and ironing. Then later she worked as a housekeeper in several homes in Morgan, including the Como Springs Motel and cabins. Lydia started working in nursing homes and retirement places in the Ogden area, where she got the nickname "Rusty". A benefit of her working was her time off, then Lydia and Ray would travel in the motor-home to visit relatives and friends throughout Utah and Colorado.

She loved to be with her family and thought of even her brother and sister in-laws as her own. Lydia loved to bake cookies, cakes, and rolls for family, friends, and the residents of where she worked.

After retiring from work, in 1987, she loved working in her yard and garden, and continue to bring the family together with her cooking and baking for many years, until her health got to the point that she had to stop doing for herself. With the help of her daughters and grandchildren she instructed them in how to do things around her home. Lydia was fortunate to have the Sacrament brought to her these past eight years and kindness of those in the Morgan 3rd ward was appreciated.

Many thanks, for over the last couple of years she received home care and hospice from Legacy and the loving care of Michelle, Deanne, Alan, and Ashley. The personal care given by her daughters for many years she was forever grateful.

Preceded in death her parents, a grandson Craig Douglas Rust, her husband Ray, two brothers Eldrith Brandt and Claren "Sonny" Brandt, four sisters Clarene Hemphill; Lola Edrington; Lula Jones; Annabell Boren. Brother in-laws: Floyd Rust; Melvin Rust; Lowell Rust; Keith Rust; Arvin Rust; Ellis Rust; Robert Hemphil; Raymond Edrington; Larry Bristol; Clinton Jones, and sister in-laws: Lila Rust; Sally Rust; Belva Rust; Donna Rust; Ann Rust and Leota Rust.

Survived by her four children and their spouses: Doug and Rayola Rust; Beth and Dennis Guymon; Melinda and Jerry Savage; Lujean and Derek Nandu; foster son,Scott Bitton and foster daughter Cindy Gray; twenty grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren, and many adopted grandchildren; also many nieces, nephews and cousins who she also loved dearly. Also surviving are three sisters, Mary Cadwalader, Lila Bristol, and Jennie Edrington; brother and sister in-laws Elouise Ingleby, Allen and Valeire Rust, Darlene Rust, Alice Swimm, Eva Brandt, Judy Brandt, Bert Cadwalader and Ron Edrington.

Funeral services will be held at the LDS Rock Church at 10 West Young Street, Morgan at 1 pm April 30, 2014. Viewing will be just prior to funeral from 11 am until 12:45 pm. Interment will be at Croydon Cemetery.
