A great lady who, though stern, was very kind, warm and incredibly friendly. Alicia never knew a stranger. She was also a virtuous and diligent woman. Misunderstood by many for her strong personality and temper. Her illness caused her to become a little combative in her later years. Her contagious love for life was admirable, an example to be followed. She would wake up every morning with the same excitement and glee children wake up on Christmas morning; only because she was alive one more day!! She had a "million dollar smile"; whenever she smiled the whole room would light up. She enjoyed everyday of her life to the fullest. Her favorite pastime was walking; it was like therapy for her. Alicia enjoyed playing bingo, even if it was only with family and friends at home. We used to play bingo with our pocket change, the kids would use their allowance, you know, dimes, nickles, quarters, and the last one would be a whole dollar!! She would never, ever leave the house without makeup on, her hair perfectly done, and very well dressed; even when she was just going to the neighborhood convenient store to get milk!!

A funny anecdote I'll never forget is that after she had me, her aging process stopped; actually it reversed!. I'll explain; she was almost 40 whe she had me, yet, during my entire elementary school years she was only 36 yrs old. She would warn me at the begining of every school year: "When your teachers ask you my age, you say I'm 36 yrs old, but you can tell them your dad's real age." Thank heavens I never flunked!!! So, that's how I became her fountain of youth, for whenever I said she was 36 everyone believed me; year, after year, after year, after year....

Alicia loved her husband Francisco as much as she loved her own life. She did everything within her power to please him and make him happy, he was her King! She was also a loving, caring, and very protective mother to her children Paco and Vilma. Though strict, she was indeed a very forgiving and devoted Mother. Whenever I had a problem, that I thought was huge, she would always find an easy solution and take all my worries away. Alicia was the most positive person I've ever met. She was a loving grandma, for she spoiled her grandchilden like she never spoiled her own children (common thing among grandmas.) When my eldest son was diagnosed with Leukemia, a month before he turned 3, she would get on her knees crying praying to the sacred heart of Jesus for a miracle. She loved him so very much, because he looks a lot like me and I, in turn, look like my dad. Also, because since I married very young, she basically took care of him for me so we could finish school and work. Well, my son is now 31 years old and has been in remission ever since. I know her prayers had a lot to do with it! Needless to say, I was so scared; I've lost two friends to Leukemia!! She was very much loved by them as well. Her grandchildren David, Paul, and Steven never, ever forget her. They speak about her often, and have very fond memories of her.

She was the best florist ever. She was gifted with the ability to make floral arrangements that were truly Special. Each and every flower displayed their own individual beauty because she knew how to find the right spot for each one of them. Her customers were always amazed by her creations. Alicia was an incredibly hard working woman and very energetic. In fact, regardless what we were doing together, I would get tired before she did. She was an extraordinarily good cook. Her dishes were never over or under condimented. She used to make all her desserts from scratch, her home made vanilla cake was the best. Honestly, I don't remember not liking something my mom had made and believe me; I'm super picky when it comes to food! Our home was beautiful, elegatly decorated, always impeccably clean, spotless! She always made sure everything was in order. Alicia was very intelligent and excellent with numbers. She could do big or small calculations in her head, never needed a calculator. I would always double check, but she was always correct.

She understood life and its difficulties as "tests" imposed upon us by God in order for us to prove ourselves worthy of entering the kingdom of heaven. She loved Jesus Christ with real passion. Her faith in him was unshakable. He was her inspiration, her strenght, her true love. It is safe to say that when God called her home, Jesus personally must have welcomed her, for few people loved the Lord like she did!

Alicia suffered a stroke and had been hospitalized for a few weeks. She was getting better, showing signs of improvement every day. But one afternoon she went to sleep and when we tried to wake her up for supper, she just didn't wake up. She had slipped into a coma, without any warning, and passed away 5 days later. I haven't been the same since then. I didn't just lose my mother, I lost my best friend, my source of positive energy, happines, and hope... my Mamy...

**Please say a prayer for her, for she passed away without the last rites being administered to her...**
