CALHOUN CHRONICLE, Grantsville, WV 26147 Compiled by Norma Knotts Shaffer 9/22/1996 - POWELL, MARY H. - Mary Hays Powell, 84, of Arnoldsburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 1996, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. She was born in Arnoldsburg, a daughter of the late E. L. And Agnes Meadows Hays. She was a former Calhoun County elementary school teacher having taught at Beech, Leatherbark, and Union elementary schools. She was a retired assistant postmaster at Arnoldsburg. She was a member of the Arnoldsburg United Methodist Church. Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Rue Powell; two sons, James Hays Powell of Parkersburg and William R. Powell of Chillicothe, Ohio; three brothers, Richard Hays of Marietta, Ohio, Sam Hays of Roanoke, Va., and Perry Hays of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one sister, Betty Kellar of Lexington, Ky.; six grandchildren, Tammy Nichols, Robin Powell, April Haught, William R. Powell, Jeffry Powell and Jennifer Diley, and four great-grandchildren, Breeann Nichols, Dustyn Nichols, Paige Haught and Brian Powell; two daughters-in-law, Barbara Powell of Parkersburg and Iolene Powell of Chillicothe, Ohio. She was preceded in death by one sister, Kathryn Louise Curtis; and two brothers, Edwin S. Hays and George J. Hays. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg with the Revs. Glendon McKee, Harold Duskey and John S. Stump officiating. Burial was in Hays Cemetery, Arnoldsburg.
