Born January 29, 1922, at Stony Bottom, he was a son of the late Samuel and Lillie Meeks.
Charles was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Campaign, First Cavalry Division. He worked for Diamond Crystal Salt Co. as a tool crib attendant, retiring after 40 years of service and was a member of Rolling Acres Alliance Church
His family was most important to him, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed attending their sporting events and loved hunting and fishing and telling stories at family get-togethers.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Norma; and an infant son.
He is survived by his son, Michael Meeks, and wife, Terri; daughter, Sandy Dearth, and husband, Jerry; brothers, Ben and Lyle Meeks; grandchildren, Steve Dearth, and wife, Michelle, Shawn Dearth, Joy Mercier, and husband, Greg, Anthony and Jason Meeks: great-grandchildren, Reilly and Brady Dearth, and Mackenzie Mercier.
Friends may call at Bacher Funeral Home, 3326 Manchester Rd. on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 from 4 to 8 p.m.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Rolling Acres Alliance Church, 2500 Kingsport Way, in Akron at 11 a.m. with Pastor Andy Smith officiating. Entombment at Greenlawn Memorial Park with military honors provided by Firestone VFW 3383.
