Born c.January 1726, Jedidiah Freeman fought for American independence as a man in his 50's and 60's. He lived to see the 13 former colonies triumphantly united as a new nation, and died at age "85 years, 9 months, 20 days".
His name is listed on the D.A.R. monument near the front door of the First Presbyterian Church of Orange, which honors Revolutionary War veterans interred in this churchyard. He died a year before the outbreak of the War of 1812---sometimes called the United States' "Second War of Independence"---and was buried in the northeastern quarter of the churchyard, where his grave is marked by a plain brown sandstone stele. (See inscription below.)
