Daughter of the late Najeeb Abbott and Afifi Freijah Abbott, she was born April 27, 1916 in Zahle, Lebanon.
Mrs. Shia worked as a branch manager for Hartford National Bank. She was a member of The First Church of Christ Congregational, Bethany, where she was active in the bell choir and many charitable activities. She also was a member of the Ethel Chapter of The Order of Eastern Star in New Haven, and had worked as a secretary for playwright Thornton Wilder.
Yvonne was enthusiastically involved in her grandchildren's activities, and infused them with a love of Lebanese culture, her family said. A gourmet cook and avid gardener, she was a master of tatting, knitting and crocheting, and created memorable treasures. She was fluent in Arabic and French.
She is survived by two daughters, Virginia Abbott Shia Lovig and her husband, Douglas of Bethany and Yvonne Shia Klancko and her husband, Robert of Woodbridge; a sister, Alice Mujaes of Madison; six grandchildren, William Klancko of Wilton, Gregory Klancko of Seymour and Daria Klancko Milburn of North Carolina; Andrew Shia Lovig of Monroe, Daniel Abbott Lovig of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Justin Freijah Lovig of Burlington, Vt.; four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Fred, Amin and Michael Abbott.
Services are Wednesday, March 30, 11 a.m., First Church of Christ Congregational, Bethany. Visiting hours, 10-11 a.m., before the service. Burial will follow in Carrington Cemetery, Bethany. Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St., Ansonia, handled arrangements.
