In an 1827 letter from her Uncle Thomas Huntington Jr to her cousin Erastus Huntington serving in the Navy, Thomas details for his son the recent death of his niece, Maria Burbridge, from typhoid. In the letter, he also describes how her sister, Cornelia, also had the fever but survived. It mentions that her father, Lieut Charles, is feeble and her mother, Rhoda Wolcott, is "a useless being"... not sure whether due to sickness or the loss of her daughter. Rhoda died the month after the letter was written and is buried with her daughter Maria in Connecticut.
She also has a brother, William. When they were orphaned, they were taken in by their aunt in Brooklyn. Their Uncle Thomas Huntington petitioned the Hartford Courts to sell land they inherited. She and her brother moved west together to Illinois "when it opened up."
I have contacted one of her descendants. She says that Cornelia kept a journal of journey heading west.
