daughter of Lieut. Charles & Rhoda Burbridge

age 15

Although her stone indicates she died October 3, 1827, in a letter dated September 16, 1827 from her Uncle Thomas Huntington to his son, Erastus Huntington stationed at the Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth NH, he informs Erastus differently:

"A short time since I mentioned to you the death of Louisa Jane, it is with great regret that I now inform you of the death of Maria. On the first(?) she complained of ill health, and in a very few days, her disorder, which was the same fever, supposed the typhoid which had affected Cornelia and others in the same house, arose to an alarming height, and raged with great violence until the 11th, when she died. We attended the funeral on the 13th. In her death, your Uncle Charles and the family have sustained a great loss. She was very necefsary to them, as he is in feeble health and Rhoda, to say the least, is now an uselefs being."

According to the stone her mother, Rhoda, died on October 11, soon after the letter was written. She was apparently very ill when Maria died.
