Author. She was a female English writer, who was published under the male pseudonym of Frank Danby. She was known for penning novels with a strong anti-Semitic flavor. Her first novel was published in 1887, "Dr. Phillips: A Maida Vale Idyll," which gave a depiction of London Jewish life. Born Julia Davis, she married in 1833 the London cigar importer Arthur Frankau. In 1900 using her own name, she published her first nonfiction book "Eighteenth Century Colour Prints: An Essay on Certain Stipple Engravers & Their Work in Colour." Her commercially successful 1908 novel, "The Heart of a Child", was adapted to a stage play and two films. Her 1916 semi-autobiographical "Twilight" was written during the last days of her life. Having been written it should never have been published. Having been published, it should not be read".
