Max Merrill, 85, of Cheyenne died Feb. 11 at United Medical Center-West.
He was born Feb. 11, 1921, in Woolrich, Pa., and had lived here since 1942.
Mr. Merrill graduated from Gillette High School and had been a postal clerk for 34 years. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Merrill of Cheyenne, whom he married Oct. 9, 1948, in Cheyenne; two sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Gail Merrill of Beaverton, Ore., and Timothy and Tammie Merrill of Wake Forest, N.C.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Melody Cox, Rhonda and Don Breazile and Pam and Fred Landry, all of Cheyenne; one brother, Louis Denton of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 11 grandchildren, Jeremy Cox, Chad Cox, Betsy Cox, Kristen Richter, Heidi Burkhardt, Christine Landry, Morgan Merrill, Jordan Merrill, Alexis Merrill, Cameron Merrill and Kayla Merrill; and six great-grandchildren, Colby Cox, Kailey Cox, MacKenzie Marler, Kaden Cox, Connor Cox and Ryleigh Richter.
Mr. Merrill was preceded in death by his father, William R. Merrill; his mother, Lottie Denton; a stepfather, the Rev. Hiram Denton; one brother; three sisters; and a son-in-law, J.C. Cox.
The memorial service will be 2 p.m. today at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Robert Schmidt and the Rev. Roger Rapp officiating.
Friends may contribute to United Medical Center Hospice or St. Paul's Lutheran Church Youth Group.
