Miss Marge had the most amazing crystal blue eyes and thick glasses which only made her eyes look even larger and a smile that would light up a room. She could be cantankerous when she wasn't in a good mood which was usually the result of declining health.
Miss Marge lived just down the street from where her final resting place would be and often my mom would collect roses from the yard and fix them in a pretty vase and show them to Marge before taking them to the cemetery to be placed on her mama's gravesite. That always made Marge happy because she was no longer able to visit her mom because moving about had become all but impossible for her.
Miss Marge LOVED Kentucky Fried Chicken -good thing there was one just across the street from her modest little home. She would often say, "How about some chicken from the chicken house?" and one of us would trot over to get her a KFC dinner.
My mother began working for "Miss Marge" as her caretaker and worked a 5 day shift with a relief caretaker filling in on the wkends...that's where I come in. It was difficult to find reliable help that would come in on the wkends so I would help out by giving my mom a much needed break and sooner than later all 3 of us became like family. Mom and I cared for Miss Marge until she finally got too ill and was moved to hospice care. We visited with her often and it was not long after she went into hospice care that she departed this earth.
Rest in peace Miss Marge and know that you are loved and forever remembered. XO
