Emmitt Rice was born May 7,1899 in Magoffin County Kentucky,he was a son of Alexander(alex)and Margaret Cynthia Pace Rice.His grandfather and grandmother were Martin VanBuren Rice who served in the 14th Ky Regt, Company I,and Nancy Whitaker Rice.He was very kind and patient had a quite nature about him.
In 1922 Emmitt married Lizzie Perkins,d/o Wiley B.and Sarah Adams Perkins. To this union Emmitt and Lizzie had one son.
After moving to Ashland Boyd Co.Kentucky,Emmitt worked for the C & O as a painter and The City of Ashland in the street department until his health forced him to retire.
His son and he used to walk to Salyersville and ride the bus back,sometimes vise a versa to see his father and family and spend the week end.
In 1954 Emmitts health took a turn for the worse,his son was out in the ocean on a ship(he was in the army). Emmitt had a anresym and was admited to Kings Daughter Hospital in Ashland Ky for days,his son was notified and was on his way home on leave,by the time that Emmitts son arrived home some ten days later,his father had died and already been buried. Emmitt Rice died May 7,1954 and is buried in the Ashland Cemetery in Ashland Kentucky.
