Susanna Lux was the daughter of Henricus and Maria (Bossler) Lux. She emigrated with her family from Luxembourg, arriving in Iowa in 1853.

Susanna married Karl Hoffmann on November 14, 1855, in St. Donatus, Iowa. Their marriage was part of a "double wedding ceremony," as Karl's sister Johanna Hoffmann married Nicholas Hoffmann (no relation) that same day at St. Donatus.

Charles and Susanna were the parents of fourteen children, ten of whom reached adulthood. They farmed and raised their family in St. Donatus, celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on November 14, 1905. A published account of their 50th anniversary celebration is shown in the FindAGrave memorial for her husband linked below.
