Rev. Clement Phinney was born to Edmund Phinney Jr. and Sarah Phinney (Hamblen) on 16 August 1780 in Gorham,Cumberland,Maine. Clement married Joanna Wallace of Gorham, on 24 March 1803 in Raymond,Cumberland,Maine.They were married by Rev. Josiah Thacker.Ten children were born to Clement and Joanna; Stephen,18 July 1804, Decker,27 Sept 1806, Mary A., 9 Nov 1808, Eliza W., 7 Jan 1811, Sarah W., 9 Dec 1812, Hannah, 20 Sept 1814, Almira W., 27 Oct 1816, Martha B., 1 May 1819, Clarissa C., 26 Aug 1821, and Abigail F., 10 Oct 1825.Clement was a cooper before he began his ministry.He preached over a good portion of New England, often preaching in churches of different denominations.Clement became a minister in the early 1800's. He served at the Free Will Baptist Church, Standish,Maine from 1816-1825. It has been said that Rev. Clement had a wonderful singing voice. His preaching style was uplifting and those listening under his ministry would often have tears coming down their cheeks.He loved everyone and said he knew of no enemies-then added if he had one that God would forgive that person.Rev. Clement Phinney truly believed in "Being Born Again" through Jesus Christ. He went Home to be with his Heavenly Father on 2 March 1855. Burial was in Western Cemetery, Portland, Cumberland,Maine.
