Robert Maury Croxton, Sr., age 82, of Warsaw, died on Wednesday, September 8, 2004. Mr. Croxton was born on May 23, 1922, to Roberta McCarty and Joseph A. Croxton of Clear Spring Farm in Lyells, Va.

He worked on the family farm until he joined the Army and served in the Anti-Tank Company 27, 1st Infantry until January 1946. He later was the top route salesman for Bond Bread and co-owned Croxton's Self Service in Lyells with his wife for several years. He worked for his daughter at Warsaw Candy Co. until April of this year.

Mr. Croxton was a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Lyells for many years, where he served as a deacon. At the time of his passing, he was a member of Cobham Park Baptist Church in Warsaw.

He was also a avid hunter and loved coon, rabbit, and deer hunting and shared many "great hunt" stories with his close hunting friends and brought home many trophies from hunting trial events. He enjoyed the Atlanta Braves and played in the Old Timers 4th of July ballgames for many years as pitcher.

He was the widower of Mary Foti Croxton, his wife of 49 years. He is survived by his children, Dianne M. Byrd of Warsaw, Robert M. Croxton, Jr. of Fredericksburg, and Thomas W. Croxton of Richmond; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Vivian C. Douglas of Haynesville, Lola C. Schools of Lyells, and Vergie C. Dent, of Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 11, 2004 at Cobham Park Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery. The Reverend Donald Bowen officiated,
Pallbearers were Chris Mahan, Jonathan Mahan, Anthony Tedesco, Daniel Croxton, Brian Byrd, Rennie Byrd, Jr., Robert "Robbie" M. Croxton, 111, and Elwood Schools.
Honorary pallbearers were Donald Jenkins, Charles Belfield, Don Stolz, Billy Grigsby, Earl Self, J.A. Christopher, Lee Ball, Raymond Douglas, Junior Douglas, and Chuck Bunch.
