John T. Schmidt, 66, of rural Elmwood died Friday, April 17, 1992, at Farmington Country Manor.

Born April 28, 1925, in Elmwood to Edward and Susan Wasson Schmidt, he married Winifred Mae Orton on Sept. 12, 1948, in Farmington. She died March 28, 1987. He also was preceded in death by one son and one brother.

He is survived by two sons, William E. of Delavan and J. Robert of Iowa City, Iowa; one daughter, Lynden D. Schmidt of Indianapolis; and one sister, Ruth Threw of Peoria.

He farmed and bred Angus cattle most of his life, and also worked for 31 years as an electrician at Keystone Steel & Wire Co. in Bartonville before retiring in 1987. He was a former member and past president of the Farmington PTA, and a member of the Peoria County Farm Bureau.

He was a member of the Independent Steel Workers Alliance, serving as chairman of its Steel Mills Grievance Committee and as an elected member of its Steel Mill Electrical and Wage & Rules committees.

Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Elmwood.
