Buddy worked in construction and later retired from IBM. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and was a member of Durham Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors included his wife of 52 years, Nancy Carpenter Sawaya; a daughter, Cathy Berry and her husband, Steve; two sons, Mike Sawaya and wife, Kate; and George Sawaya and wife, Tammie; two sisters, Norene Schell and husband, Don; Evonne Anne Scuitte and husband, Bob; three brothers, George Sawaya Jr. and wife, Cathy; Emerson Sawaya, and Norman Sawaya and wife, Patricia; and three much loved granddaughters and grandson. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Sawaya.
