Wife of Frederick C. Hillmann, whom she married on April 25, 1942.

Obituary - Mrs. Nellie M. Springhorn Hillmann died on Tuesday at her home on Maple Street, Blue Point after a long illness. She was born in Blue Point on May 24th, 1881, a daughter of Captain and Mrs. Fred Bishop. She had three sisters, Mrs. Frances Bishop Springhorn, Mrs. Ann Heddink and Mrs. Calista Bishop Baker, all deceased. She attended schools in Blue Point and Patchogue and a dressmaking school in Brooklyn. She was married to Herman J. Springhorn on November 20, 1904 and there were three children from that union, Wesley Springhorn, Mrs. Vera Hatfield, and Mrs. Marion Buell. Mr. Springhorn passed away in 1940 and she subsequently married Fred C. Hillmann on April 25, 1942 who passed away in 1960. Mrs. Springhorn, with the help of her husband, Herman (John) Springhorn founded the Blue Point Laundry 45 years ago with four employees and one truck. The first building was an old portable YMCA building from Camp Upton, built on the present site which was the site of their old home. Five years after the business was founded, the plant was completely gutted by fire and had to be rebuilt. Since that time their home was torn down and the property to the west purchased and two other houses moved to make room for expansion. When the laundry was first started there was only one service, wet wash. Later on, two services were added and they were called rough dry and finish service. In those days the clothes were dried outside. Today, the laundry employs 211 people, has 16 different services with 4 different divisions. Mrs. Hillmann had been a member of the Blue Point Baptist Church since the age of 15 and had been active in the work of the church. She was a member of the Women's Union and a trustee of the church and was also a trustee of the Blue Point Cemetery Association. She was well known for her kindness and her charity. Funeral services will be held at two o'clock tomorrow(Friday) afternoon from the Baptist Church and interment will be in the Blue Point Cemetery.
