US Congressman. Born in Wapakoneta, Ohio, he learned the art of printing at Ohio Wesleyan University, then worked as a journeyman printer in various cities in Ohio, Indiana and Illinois. He was owner and publisher, of the Ohio Defiance Express, a member of the Republican Ohio State central committee, and Postmaster of Defiance. In 1919, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-sixth Congress and to the next five succeeding Congresses, serving until 1931. After his term, he retired from public service and died at age 70 while on a trip in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
