Harry Brandt, resident of Fort Morgan, passed away at Valley View Villa on Saturday evening, December 31, 2011. He was 90 years old.
He was born February 27, 1921 in Snyder, CO, to Henry Brandt, Sr. and Barbara Kauffman Brandt. He attended a country elementary school near Snyder and then was bused to Central and Fort Morgan High School from 1929 to 1939. He graduated from the Aviation Institute of Denver in 1942 and worked at Mare Island shipyards until he was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Corps. His training and assignment to a bomber crew in B-24's took him to many locations in the U.S. He received his overseas assignment in B-29's the day Japan surrendered. He was released from the service in 1945 and returned to Fort Morgan where he returned to farming.

On October 22, 1943, he married the love and sweetheart of his life, Ruth Ruhl, also of Fort Morgan, and they shared 68 years of treasured memories. They had two children, Cynthia Brandt Lind and Steven Brandt. Harry farmed southwest of Fort Morgan until 1982, when he retired and moved into the city and worked for Pioneer Hy-bred International, Inc. from 1984 until 1992.

Harry is survived by his wife, Ruth; two children and their spouses, Eddie and Cindy Lind of Fort Morgan and Steve and Janice (Kembel) Brandt of Keenesburg, CO; 4 grandchildren, Shelly Harden and husband, Greg of Arlington Heights, IL, Mike Lind of Denver, CO, Shawn and Candis Brandt of Matthews, NC, and Jon and Ceri Holsten of Fort Collins, CO; 20 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Elsie Naill of Fort Morgan, Edna Erosky and husband, Henry of Denver, and Dorothy Kamanski and husband, Charlie of Henderson, NV; one sister-in-law, Lydia Brandt of Sun City West, AZ, and lots of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Sr. and Barbara Brandt; five brothers, Albert, Ray, Henry, Dan, and Leroy; and one sister, Ruth Morgan Brandt.

Harry was an active lifetime member of Immanuel Evangelical Church of Fort Morgan. He loved and served his Lord as Sunday School Superintendent, teacher, choir director, and over the years held various positions on the church board, including President. He used his beautiful tenor voice singing with the church choir, men's choir, men's quartet, and an occasional duet with his daughter. He even played a "mean" saxophone, passing that talent to his son.

Harry belonged to Gideons International from 1973 to the present date. He especially enjoyed distributing the New Testaments to various entities around the community. His retirement hobbies included golfing, fishing, and woodworking.

Harry was a devoted, faithful, and loving husband, a supportive and involved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He had enough love and humor to share with every member of his family and there was always lots of fun and laughter when together. Although his body was being immobilized by a rare disease, he could spend hours reading, (which he did), especially the Bible. He loved to engage anyone who would participate in theological discussions. Today, the Author of the Scriptures is answering his questions personally and delighting his heart. We, as a family, thank him for his wonderful legacy.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2012, at Immanuel Evangelical Church in Fort Morgan. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens.

Memorials in his honor may be given to Immanuel Evangelical Church for the music department, (at his request), or to Gideons International for the purchase of Bibles.

The Heer & Dahl Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
