His visitation will be noon-2 p.m. Thursday, April 21, 2011, at Mhoontown Methodist Church. His service will immediately follow at 2 p.m., with Eule Glenn Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Harris Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Askew was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War. He was a retired plant supervisor for Reynolds Metals after 34 years of service. He was a member of Mhoontown Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Thelma Askew, and his brother, Montroy Askew.
He is survived by his wife, Genell Askew, of Cherokee; son, Jeffrey Dean Askew and wife, Claudia, of Tuscumbia; daughter, Geri Nell Askew Hamm, of Tuscumbia; son-in-law, Ryan Hamm, Florence; grandchildren, Mae Margaret Hamm, Sarah Jane Hamm, Isabella Genell Hamm and Houston Dean Askew; brother, Garry Don Askew, of Muscle Shoals; sisters, Betty Ruth Lundy, of Muscle Shoals, and Jo Ann Hayes, of Cherokee.
Pallbearers will be Ronald Askew, Blake Smith, Greg Smith, Johnny Glover, Daniel Glover, Robert Hayes and Robert Timmons.
Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia, is directing.
