Son of William Warren Wagar (1827-1905) and his wife, Lucina Gilbert Wagar (1832-1874), and husband of Viola Bullington Wagar who died in 1927. Ashel was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Santa Rosa. Two of his daughters lived close to him at the time of his death: Blanche L. Evans lived in Santa Rosa and Marie Wagar lived at Berkeley. Other children were Rev. Ashel T. Wagar, Jr., and Reba Hannay. His obituary was published in the Berkeley Daily Gazette on Saturday, June 21, 1958.
