Sheldon, Mary, daughter of Henry Griffin and Elizabeth Merritt, born Hunter, Greene County, New York, May 3, 1816, came with her parents to Fitchville Township, 1833, and married, 1835, Rufus Sheldon of Greenwich who died January 1, 1875, and sometime later Mrs. Sheldon made her home in Norwalk.
She died in Lorain May 5, 1914, leaving two children, Dr. Rufus N. of Norwalk, and Caroline E., wife of Hon. Jay F. Laning of Lorain. Four other children were Dr. Albert Sheldon, Lucy Sheldon, Mrs. Joanna Sherburne and Captain Henry Sheldon.
