Ira M. Birdsong, 53, Tuscumbia, died Saturday, January 3 at Memorial Community Hospital (Jefferson City). He was born March 28, 1927, at Tuscumbia, a son of John and Alice Humphrey Birdsong. He was married December 31, 1951, at Granite City, Illinois to Wilma Lindsey, who survives at the home.
He was employed at Corrugated Box Co. in St. Louis for 18 years before his retirement in 1974. He moved to Tuscumbia following his retirement. He was a veteran of the Korean War and World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy during both wars.
Other survivors include: two sons, John Birdsong, Grannite City, Ill., and James Birdsong, Mt. Vernon, Ill.; one daughter, Lenetta Smith, Eldon; Three brothers, Jaspar Birdsong, Eldon, Flavey Birdsong, Coalmont, Ind., and George Birdsong, Granite City, Ill., Mrs. Martha Lee, Eldon, and Mrs. Flossie Clark, Tuscumbia; and five grandchildren.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, January 5 at the Humphreys Creek Christian Church with the Rev. Gene Edwards and the Rev. Floyd Barlow officiating. Burial was in the Capps Cemetery, near St. Elizabeth. Arrangements were under the direction of the Stevinson-Mossman Funeral Home, Iberia.
