MOONSVILLE--Moses George "Modie" Beeman, 75, died at Ball Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
Moses was born in Moonsville to Lewis & Harriet (Stewart) Beeman. Modie graduated from Yorktown High School in 1955 where he was a star basketball player from 1951-55, attended Memphis State University in 1955 and Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. He served in the U.S. Marines from 1956-1962. He was a policeman for 33 years. He served at Madison County Sheriff Department as an officer. He was Chief of Police for Warren Township and Chesterfield before retiring. He was a school bus driver for 15 years for Anderson Community Schools. He attended Reed Station Christian Church in Yorktown.
He is survived by his sister, Rose Beeman of Anderson; his children, Rhonda L. (Pieter) Overbeeke of Summerville, SC; Tony M. (Dawn) Beeman, Yorktown, IN; stepchildren, Larry (Shannon) Roberson, Ronnie (Cyndi) Roberson, of Moonsville, Ashli (John) Caudil of Yorktown, IN; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; six step great grandchildren; and his dog, Noodles.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Don, Harry, Wilbur, Marvin, Dean, Delbert, and Larry; and sisters, Ella Clawson, Elene Brown, Irene Gooding, Maxine Bowman, and Cora Beeman.
Friends may call Monday from 4-8 p.m. at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service. Funeral services will be on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Bethany Christian Church with Pastor Joe Garrett of Reed Station Christian Church officiating. There will be a police escort through Chesterfield, Daleville, and Yorktown in procession to Moonsville Cemetery where VFW Post 266 Honor Guard will provide military graveside rites.
