Eva L. Smith Battle Creek Eva L. (Moorehead) Smith, 78, of Battle Creek, MI, passed away surrounded by her family on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at Masonic Pathways Senior Living in Alma, MI. She was born July 5, 1929 in Joplin, MO the daughter of Frederick Thomas Moorehead and Augusta (Morey) Moorehead. She married Robert E. Smith on May 21, 1948 in Bentonville, Arkansas and celebrated 60 years of marriage this year. She had been a homemaker, wife and mother all her life. She is survived by her husband: Robert E. Smith of Battle Creek; four sons: Frank and Kay Smith, Jack and Carolyn Smith, all of Battle Creek, Ronald and Linda Smith of Marshall, MI, Jeffrey Smith of Kalamazoo; six daughters: Judith Smith, Barbara and Robert Hamlin, all of Battle Creek, Betty and Roger Benson of Ft. Myers, FL, Amy and Nicholas Simon of Golden, CO, June and Gordon James of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Lorraine and Rob Harris of Bellevue, MI; 28 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Ernest and Bev Moorehead of Panasoffkee, FL, Frank and Norma Moorehead of South Bend, IN, and James and Nancy Moorehead of Battle Creek; and a sister: Mildred and Art Schaffer of Fairfield, CA. Eva was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Dixie Lee Smith; her granddaughter, Jessica Simon; her great-granddaughter, Alixandra Heisler; three sisters: Donna Hurst, Beverly Moorehead, Helen Moorehead; and two brothers: Charles and Donald Moorehead. Eva came to Battle Creek as a youngster, graduated from Lakeview High School in 1947. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star #291 of Climax, Wolverine Harmonica Club, Flakey Fliers Travel Club #48, Good Sam's Travel Club. Eva enjoyed making quilts, sewing, reading, collecting recipe books. She had a love for working in the kitchen baking biscuits, pumpkin pies, and canning. Her most precious moments were traveling with her husband and time to be with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed her cat Mona who is 28 years old. Visitation will be held at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service after 9 a.m. Friday where the family will be present from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 11:00 a.m. at the Bachman Funeral Chapel with Pastor Richard Gerten of Family Bible Church - Marshall officiating. Burial will follow at the Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial tributes may be made to Hospice of Michigan or Masonic Pathways Senior Living.
