Anna 'Laura' (Shields) Stoner
GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Anna 'Laura' (Shields) Stoner, 94, of Green Bay, Wis., died Friday, April 22, 2011, at a nursing home in Green Bay, Wis., following a brief illness.
She was born August 16, 1916, in Orleans, Neb., to Franklin and Anna (Barker) Shields. After the death of her father, Franklin, Laura and her mother moved to Salem, Ore., where they lived until 1946.
Laura then moved to Michigan where she married James A. Stoner of Big Rapids, Mich. Since 1953, Laura has made a home in Ironwood. For many years she worked as a nurse's aide at Grand View Hospital in Ironwood. She was an excellent caregiver and enjoyed helping people.
Laura always put other people before herself. She loved animals, especially cats, and enjoyed reading medical articles and medical books.
She is survived by her daughter, Annette, Green Bay; a grandson, Michael, Green Bay; and many other relatives and friends in Nebraska, California, Oregon and Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., in Green Bay., from 3 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday. The funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Steven Fewell officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
