Barney J. "Bud" Walker of Eugene died Dec. 18 of a heart attack. He was 74.

Walker was born May 26, 1927, in Drain to Barney and Stacey Mangrum Walker.

In 1947, he married Frances Bitney in Portland. They later divorced. He married Marie Rodgers in Reno, Nev., on Jan. 5, 1980. She died Nov. 3, 2000.

Walker worked 20 years as a freight handler for Railway Express. After moving from Portland to Eugene, he worked 15 years as a carpenter at the University of Oregon before retiring in 1989.

His interests included airplanes, golf, carpentry and woodworking. He was a voting member of the Oregon Air and Space Museum.

Survivors include a son, Greg of Portland; a stepson, Wayne Rodgers of Eugene; a stepdaughter, Faye Thorpe of Coos Bay; a sister, Joyce Bates of Springfield; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Two infant daughters, Carol Ann and Patty Jo, died previously.

A memorial service will be held later. Private inurnment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Leaburg. Chapel of Memories Funeral Home in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Oregon Air and Space Museum.
