GALESBURG -- Marcele Ferris, 73, of 1591 N. Seminary St. died at 6:35 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, 1996, at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. Born July 4, 1922, near Knoxville to Alla and Jennie Schideman Holloway, she married Robert Lee Ferris on Sept. 6, 1941 in Kahoka, Mo. He died Dec. 19, 1988. She also was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. Surviving are three daughters, Marsha Ferris of Galesburg, Jeri Lynn Alsman of Farmersburg, Ind., and Debbie Banta of Huntsville, Ala.; two sons, James of Huntsville, and Dan of Long Beach, Calif.; nine grandchildren; four great- grandchildren; and one sister, Jeanne Melton of Galesburg. She grew up in the Gilson area. She worked at the former Harris Appliance Store and Shanks Clothing and Shoe Store, both in Abingdon. She later worked at the former Hines and McClintoch Department Store in Galesburg for several years. She last worked for Bergner's Department Store in Sandburg Mall, retiring in 1982. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Galesburg, where services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Henry Crede will officiate. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Burial will be in Haynes Cemetery in DeLong. Memorials may be made to the Galesburg Cottage Hospital Hemodialysis Unit or her church.
Jim - Mom was on dialysis for 13 years; she was not a candidate for transplant so she troopered on...a tough old bird as we lovely called her. She finally had had enough and told the doctor to stop.
I miss you Mom!
