U.S. Congressman. He studied medicine at Pope's Medical College, graduated in medicine and opened a medical practice in Warrenton, Missouri in 1860. During the Civil War, he served as Colonel of the 59th Regiment, Missouri Volunteer Infantry, Union Army. After the war, he studied law, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Mexico, Missouri in 1865. In 1885, he was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-ninth and Fiftieth Congresses, serving until 1889. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was a physician and engaged in the practice of law until his death.
