Miss Mary M. R. Hatfield was born Sept. 18, 1870, in Fall River City, Kan. At an early age her parents moved to Ft. Scott, Kan., where they made their home. She united with the M. C. church at the age of 13 during a revival meeting conducted by Rev. Bittner, the evangelist, and Rev. Bryant, minister of the church at that time.
On Nov. 19, 1888, she was united in marriage to Mr. J. H. Witt at the age of 18. Five children were born to them, three of whom are living - Earl C., Edna O. and Loyd E. Witt. Two and a half years ago Mrs. Witt came to Junction City. Her health failed and she had been in poor health until Dec. 26, 1910, when death claimed her.
Besides her husband, J. H. Witt, and three children, she is survived by her mother, Mrs. Laura D. Redmond, and sister, Mrs. J. C. Bever. When death came her family and relatives were at her bedside.
