Edith Evans, 89, of Sioux Falls, died Friday, April 29, 2011 at Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls.

Edith G. Skretting was born March 15, 1922 at Minneapolis, MN. As a child, she moved with her family to Brookings, SD where she grew up and received her education, graduating from Brookings, High School. Following high school, she attended South Dakota State University until World War II interrupted her education.

On September 7, 1943, she was united in marriage with Robert A. Evans. The couple lived in Alexandria, VA during the war where her daughter, Ann was born. After the war, Robert and Edith moved to Sioux Falls, SD where their son, Robert was born. Edith was a homemaker for many years. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church for her entire adult life. After raising her children, Edith began her career with Norwest Bank. She began her career in the real estate department of the bank, then became the personnel officer, a position she held at the time of her retirement in 1984. Her husband, Robert, preceded her in death in 1983.

Edith served on the board of directors of the Y.W.C.A. and was on the Girl Scout Council. She was an avid artist and china painter and a member of the Civic Fine Arts Council. Edith also enjoyed travelling extensively around the world. She was an avid golfer and was a member of the Elmwood Ladies Golf League at the time of her death.

Edith was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by all of her family.

Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Sioux Falls. Interment will be in Hills of Rest Memorial Park. Visitation with the family present will be from 6:00 to 7:30 pm Monday at Miller Funeral Home, Main Avenue location.
