While Robert's tombstone inscription states his birth date as Jan 14, 1880 (see photograph), other sources give different dates (the year, specifically) for Robert's birth. Two sources -- a bio for Robert (Prominent Jews of America, American Hebrew Publishing Co., Toledo, OH, 1918, pg 40) and his WWI draft registration card -- give a birth date of 14 Jan 1881. Another factor to consider is that Robert had a brother, Charles M. Carnick, whose death certificate states he (Charles) was born 6 Apr 1880. If Robert had been born in Jan 1880, then he and Charles would only be four months apart in age, which is not consistent with them having the same parents. All things considered, Robert's bio and WWI draft registration (being closest in time to the actual event -- his birth) are considered the most credible sources for his birth date.
