Esther was the daughter of Paratteen White and an unknown Field. Her birth date was from an old bible in possession of Mrs Gilman Wetherbee of Springfield, VT. (NEHGR, 1958) Esther married Jacob Lockwood 1 June 1777, Springfield, Windsor Co., VT.

The Lockwood family, and probably the White family, came to Springfield, VT from Cranston, Providence Co., RI between July 1770 and 1772. In July 1770, one of Jacob's younger sisters was born in Cranston; in 1772 William, Jacob's father, bought land from Timothy Spencer and from John Barrett. The land Jacob purchased was on both sides of the Black River, 2 miles south of Springfield. He built a large house on the west side of the river for their large family of 15 children. Twelve of the children reached adulthood, of whom 9 were sons, At least 7 of their children settled in Springfield. They also kept a tavern.

Jacob, along with Abram Lockwood, Luther Field (106105903), Daniel Field (111741884), Henry Lockwood (47951137), and John Williams all fought in the Revolutionary war under the command of Capt Samuel Scott, Sgt John Nott, Corp James Dumfy (Rolls of the soldiers in the Revolutionary War, 1775 to 1783;"). These men were all related.

His name is found on the Baptist Certificate and Covenant signed 20 Mar 1788, along with his brother-in-law Luther Field. Jacob took the oath of Freeman late 1749.

Children who don't yet have memorials are: Anna (1777-?), Samuel (1781-1846) moved to Elkhart Co.,IN, Elisha (b. 1789-?), John (1793-?)went west, Luther (1795-?), and Luthana (1806-?) m. Lyman Taylor.
