EVAN HAINES OF HUNTSVILLE DIES
Evan Haines, prominent Huntsville man, died at 1 o'clock this afternoon at McCormick Hospital, where he had been a patient for the past six weeks. He was 67 years old.
Death followed amputation yesterday of a major portion of his right foot, made necessary by gangrenous infection. Mr. Haines had been suffering from diabetes and his condition was such that he was unable to rally from the operations.
Mr. Haines' death resulted in a mistrial being declared in the Elmer Seaman murder trial here, as Mr. Haines son, Clarence Haines of near Huntsville, was a member of the jury.
Mr. Haines was born and reared near Darksville, Mo. He engaged in farming until 1900 when he moved to Huntsville. There he operated a grocery store for approximately 25 years. For the past eight years he had been employed as a salesman for the Randolph County Farm Mutual Insurance Co.
He is survived by two sons, Clarence and Joe Wallace Haines, Huntsville, three daughters, Mrs. George Johnson of Fayette, Mrs. Claud L McVeigh of Fulton and Miss Margaret Haines of Huntsville; two sisters, Mrs. Joe Terry of Huntsville and Mrs. Mary Jane Carter of Kansas City, and several grandchildren. Mrs. Haines died in 1908.
The body has been taken to Huntsville. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
