Oldest child and daughter of Sidney Whitfield "Whit" and Mattie (Ray) Denson. She grew up around Helicon AL and was active in Sacred Harp (fa-sol-la) singing, taught to her by her father and grandfather (Seaborn McDaniel Denson). She and her husband, William Homer Johnson, farmed in the Helicon area and she was also an insurance salesperson and operated a motel in Nesmith AL after they were divorced. She composed the tune "Oh, What Love" for the 1960 appendix of the "The Sacred Harp" Denson revision.
